Hi all,
I got 2 Dean koontz books for Christmas, the taking, and the bad place. The taking is about people and the world being taken over, and they all gather at the local tavern for safety as a defense for what may come. The bad place starts out with this man who wakes up with his pockets filled with things, and he has no idea how or where he got them, and he hires a couple who are security consultants to help him find the answers. This book is more gross than any thing I've ever read by him, but it is full of his usual suspense. I have 5 books altogether by Dean Koontz, false memory, from the corner of his eye, mister murder, and now the last 2. How many here read Dean Koontz?

I've read a lot of Dean's books. Really enjoyed From the Corner Of His Eye. Fantoms was good, but it was so similar to King's book It, except Fantoms was about half the length.

I haven't read phantoms yet, haven't seen it anywhere, but I have to agree with you on from the corner of his eye. There were some parts of it that almost made me cry.

Yeah. I've read some of Koontz books. TO be honest, I don't really like him. He's what I would sort of refer to as "pedestrian horror" (and yeah, I know that's an oxymoron). The only book of his that really stuck with me was "Lightning", the first book by him I read, back in 1991 or 1992...and that, I think, mostly because of the time travel and WWII plotlines. I've also read "Mr. Murder", "Intensity", 'Midnight" and one or two others.

SPeaking of Koontz ripping off King, did anybody else notice that Koontz's "Mr. Murder" was eerily similar to King's "The Dark Half"?

Can't remember if I read the dark half or not. I think koontz and stephen king are both good in their own way.

I think King is kind of underrated as a writer, but at least he's overcome the stigma of "trashiness" that surrounded him in the 80s.

Hmm, some of you people might enjoy Dan Simmons' book "Song of Kali"...I read it over the holidays and have a really mixed view of it. I'm curious to know what others might think.

Hi: I hadn't given much thought to Mr. Murder being similar to The Dark Half but in reflecting about it now, yes, there are many similarities. I just thought the similarities between Steven King's It and Fantoms by Koontz were glaringly alike.

I may be wrong, but isn't the dark half part of Kings' dark tower series? I only read one book in his dark tower series, and i didn't care as much for it as I did some of his other books. Since I don't remember reading the dark half, I don't know if it's similar to Mister murder.

No, The Dark Half is about a writer and is not related to The Dark Tower books.

I'm mad at Dean Koontz. He started the Christopher Snow series, and left us all hanging with Seiz the Night. There are two books so far, and he claims he is going to finish the third one. The first two are Fear Nothing, and Seiz The Night. They are good, but he needs to finish them. That is anoying. I keep checking his website, but no news. There was some talk a few years ago, about the third book coming out in the UK first. Does anyone know about that?

I'm sure he'll finish them, his publishers will basically make him! Lol. Stephen King did the same thing with The Green Mile, and he finished it, and it's my favorite book by him. Caitlin
